Olga’s Diner is in trouble!

Although it really hasn’t been a great place to eat in years…and I have only eaten there a handful of times in my life, Olga’s Diner in Marlton, NJ, is a landmark to many in these parts. While growing up in Brick, NJ, my family would make many trips to Phillies games by taking Route 70. Olga’s was right there on the Marlton Circle and it kind of represented an official crossing into Philly territory en route to Veterans Stadium.

Well, for the second time this month, Olga’s has had to close its doors because it couldn’t pay the bills. Earlier in July, Olga’s was closed for one day because the gas bill had not been paid. But now, it is much, much worse…today, the state of New Jersey seized Olga’s because the family that owns it is $37,000 behind in back taxes.

Although a family member says the plan is to pay the $37,000 to the state and get Olga’s reopened, it doesn’t seem likely that the diner’s long-term outlook is good.

Hello from the XPN Music Festival

I am spending most of the weekend at the 2008 XPNXPoNenetial Music Festival on the Camden, NJ, waterfront.

But on Sunday, July 13, at around 4 p.m., I will be backing up my friend Christian Beach on organ & accordion on a live webcast at http:www.sundayjams.info.

OK, I’m going back to listening to Dar Williams perform here at the XPN Festival.

I lost my cell phone…feels like it’s 1997

Qualcomm QCP2700 Cell Phone

So, to all my friends out there, I just want you to know that I am currently without a cell phone…somehow I lost it in a span of 30 seconds of time and 50 feet in distance. All I know is that it vanished so I filed a claim (thank goodness I took the total equipment coverage) and will be getting a replacement phone delivered to my office tomorrow (Wed., 7/9).

But I drove out to visit my parents last night and it was weird not having a phone in the car. The last time I didn’t have a phone with me for a relatively long car trip (an hour or more) was before I bought my first cell phone in 1998, which reminded me of some of my old phones. The one pictured to the right is a Qualcomm QCP2700 from the late 90s. I think my first phone was a Motorola model, but my second was a Qualcomm very similar to the QCP2700, if not the same model.
